Are You Ready for Leadership?
Regardless of your role in a library or in a library association, developing a leadership plan is an important tool in being focused on your goals. In this session participants will discuss some characteristics of effective leadership and learn the process for developing a leadership plan.

Management in Context
In this session, participants will come away with information about systems thinking and decision-making that will lead to more effective operations within their organizations.

Both sessions welcome staff at all levels and in both academic and public library environments.

Trevor A. Dawes is an Associate University Librarian at Washington University in St. Louis. He has been active in staff development and training for public services; has written on various library services topics, and has either planned or presented at various local, national and international conferences on a variety of topics. Dawes earned his Master of Library Science from Rutgers University, and has two additional Master’s Degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University. He is an active member of the American Library Association and is a past president of the Association of College and Research Libraries.

SUMMARY

Seeking a business-focused library professional who is creative, values collaboration and teamwork, and most importantly, is committed to providing great public library services. Under supervision of a Library Services Manager, this position has a Business and Career Development focus, connecting entrepreneurs in the community with resources to build their businesses, and assisting library members in furthering their career objectives. This position also has a community engagement focus at Cheney and is responsible for developing partnerships on behalf of the library in that community. Provides reference and readers’ advisory, instructs members in use of library resources and services, and identifies customer service and collection needs.

SCHEDULE

The current work schedule at North Spokane Library is Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00am to 6:00pm.

SALARY / WAGE

$4,013.57-$5,016.96 per month in six steps, plus benefits including medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, Employee Assistance Program; 11 paid holidays; paid vacation and sick leave; and participation in the Public Employees Retirement System.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master of Library & Information Science or equivalent and the Professional Librarian’s Certificate issued by the Washington State Library (or its predecessor) as required by RCW 27.04.055. One (1) year of experience in business and career development support in a public library and/or related experience preferred. Effective communication skills; read and use English and understand numbers; working knowledge of personal computers, office software, database software and the Internet; ILS experience preferred. Or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience that ensures satisfactory performance of essential job functions.

Request for Proposals: 2016 WALE Conference

Program proposals are now being accepted for the 2016 WALE Conference, to be held October 24-25 in beautiful Lake Chelan, WA. This is the 25th annual event for the Washington Library Employees, an interest group of the WA Library Association.

All proposals from library staff, advocates, and partner organizations will be considered. Now is the time to reach out to the dynamic presenters in your professional communities or share your own skills and experience by leading a Conference Session or a Preconference Workshop.

  • Proposals are due no later than April 8.
  • Primary Contacts will be notified of proposal status by April 22.
  • All Preconference Workshops will be held October 25.
  • All Conference Sessions will be held October 26.
